qb Laboratory is a short exploration game built in GB Studio.
Step inside the fictional headquarters of Quanty Bandit: interact with quirky lab equipment, chat with agents and curious visitors, and unlock the mysterious Maskotios study room.
Presented in a nostalgic, Pokémon-style aesthetic, qb Laboratory is a “Com-Game” (Communication Game) — a playful, interactive space designed to introduce the lore behind Quanty Bandit’s projects and the people who make them. Explore the lab, dig into the universe, and uncover hidden details across a retro-inspired world.

I personally:
Built the game using GB Studio, a drag-and-drop engine for creating Game Boy-style games.
Wrote all dialogues and in-game text in English, crafting the tone to match the playful retro vibe.
Created and animated 2D sprites and backgrounds using Aseprite and Tiled, staying true to hardware limitations while maximizing visual charm.
Composed chiptune music and sound effects in authentic Game Boy style, giving the game its nostalgic identity.
Published the game on itch.io, making it playable directly in browsers on both PC and mobile.
The Glowing Object Mechanic
Every interactable object in the game features a glowing sprite, inspired by the visual cues in the original Resident Evil.
This was my solution to a core limitation in GB Studio, which only allows a maximum of 10 actors per scene (characters, objects, etc.). In more complex rooms, this meant some items couldn’t have interactions, leading to inconsistencies — a bookshelf might be interactive in one room but not in another, confusing the player.
To solve this, I added a glow effect to clearly mark interactive objects. I designed two color variants (white and green) to ensure visibility across all backgrounds, and created four different glow animations with offset timings to avoid visual repetition and make the world feel more alive.
